Hon. Akande Sadipe in a statement on Monday, described the death of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi as a painful exit and a big blow to the Southwest and the entire people of Oyo.
His great grandfather, grandfather and father, Oba Oluwusi Aremu (5th Soun of Ogbomosoland, reigned from 1826 to1840), Oba Gbagungboye Ajagungbade 1 (10th Soun of Ogbomosoland, reigned from 1869 to 1871) and Oba Afolabi Oyewumi Ajagungbade 11(15th Soun of ogbomosoland, reigned from 1916 to 1940) respectively were monarchs of the ancient city of Ogbomoso.
Folarin, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content, in a condolence message he personally signed, extolled the late oba’s extraordinary and committed leadership role to his people during his 48 years reign as the Soun of Ogbomoso.
Acknowledging his age-long friendship with the deceased, the nonagenarian monarch described the late Joda as a dependable and selfless friend, adding that the late statesman was a man of honour and integrity.
Acknowledging the pedigree of the new appointee in public administration and community service, the nonagenerian monarch admonished Adekunle to live up to expectations in his role, adding that the new Chairman’s accomplishments in the public sector are remarkable and commendable.
While charging the Muslim community to be selfless and patriotic in their endeavours, Oba Oyewumi called for spiritual rebirth and sober reflection, adding that the teachings of the holy Qur’an must be upheld in the daily activities.
The well respected and renowned first class monarch, has over the years, used his financial resources and network of contacts to attract robust development in his domain.
The monarch, while congratulating the Muslim ummah on the commencement of Ramadan, called on the political class to make the welfare of the people a top priority in their policy thrust.
