With any fear of contradiction, Barrister Wike is equal to the task. He has been primed over the years for a time like this. His emergence as the next governor of Rivers State is one that will be a blessing for the state as he is a politician, lawyer and administrator with the relevant qualities to turn around a state that has been made a laughing stock by the outgoing administration.

The latest being the Nollywood scripted declaration by the embattled Rivers State All Progressives Congress Chairman, David Ikanya, who claimed that the governorship election was rigged by the Peoples Democratic Party in connivance with the Independent National Electoral Commission and the police. We sympathise with Mr. Ikanya as he is desperately struggling to find relevance in the APC after his last minute efforts to defect to PDP were thwarted by party officials who questioned his motive under the circumstances

The people made up their minds to rescue their beloved state from the hands of a treacherous mob, determined to further destroy the state and enslave her people to deadly predators. On this matter, the unity of Rivers people was unshakeable. They resolved to be deaf to the horrible propaganda machine unleashed on the state and her leaders by the outgoing governor, Mr Rotimi Amaechi

A police source, who is part of the delegation to the state, hinted that‎ the indication of violence or conspiracy to violence started to manifest on Friday when a former Commissioner of Police in the state, Tunde Ogunshakin, who is now the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 6, issued strong warning to his men on the ground against partisanship

The APC, in a statement on Tuesday, said: “Wike would have tried to be man enough and allow the G16 to contest and defeat him flatly instead of allowing himself to be imposed as Rivers PDP governorship candidate through what has been generally accepted to be the most fraudulent and kangaroo governorship congress ever in Nigeria’s history
