The Council in a press release signed by its Deputy Secretary-General, Prof. Salisu Shehu, noted that the Coup, which has attracted several reactions and different degrees of sanctions from nations and supranational institutions such as the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS), has socio-economic negative implications for both Nigerians and Nigeriens, especially “as we share common history and borders”.

While affirming the statements of the governors of Plateau and Ondo states that the attack was a case of mistaken identity and not particularly targeted at Muslims, the Council appealed to all Muslims to be calm and not take the law into their own hands.
