The minister said this at an event organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Professional Forum on Thursday, in Abuja, at the party’s national secretariat.
It said further extension of the registration period was not feasible. The Board, however, said only candidates with genuine proofs of failed efforts will be allowed new extension dates.
A press statement issued by the company in Lagos over the weekend said this followed the lifting of the suspension of activation of new SIM cards and replacement of lost ones which the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy had announced last December.
The Senate also called for the extension of the JAMB registration deadline until there is a seamless and well organised process for obtaining the NIN.
In its announcement released to the press from Lagos, Globacom said, “For us, the needs of our customers come first. We are keenly aware of the difficulty the announced ban had on our existing and prospective subscribers and look forward to the respite they will have with the recommencement.”
Launching the National Policy for the Promotion of Indigenous Content in Nigerian Telecoms Sector and Revised National Identity Policy for SIM Cards registration, the President said proper identification of all Nigerians and legal residents in the country and ability to conveniently access a data base will provide impetus for more effective planning and security oversight.
The extension was as a result of the virtual meeting chaired by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, and attended by the Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof. Adeolu Akande; Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Dambatta; and Director-General/CEO, National Identity Management Commission, Engr. Aliyu Azeez.
The arrest was carried out by a joint team from the Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Department of the Commission, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 in the Wuse area of Abuja.
According to the board’s weekly bulletin obtained from the board’s website by the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday, JAMB has also registered more than 8,000 Direct Entry candidates.
The Director Public Affairs, NCC, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said the arrest was part of the commission’s routine enforcement activities to rid the industry of criminal elements.

Pantami, an Islamic cleric, also said he has been preaching against the terrorist sect for over 15 years.
In its weekly bulletin made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday, the Board decried the unwholesome activities of fraudulent operators of cyber cafes, tutorial centres and other entities which deceive hapless candidates by using the board’s logo and name to defraud and extort them.
