The spokesman for the caucus, Hon. Francis Ottah Agbo, said in a statement on Friday that the claim by the chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs/spokesman of the House, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, that the motion was not presented under an appropriate rule is “completely dumb, frivolous and exposes his poor knowledge of legislative procedures.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Hembe announced his defection at Tuesday’s plenary, declining to state reasons for his action.

I recall the Ndudi Elumelu corruption probe of the power sector in 2009, where, as Chairman of the House Committee on Power, “the prober” was accused of receiving bribes and allegedly annexing N5.2 billion from the rural electrification budget alongside other officials on the panel. I would like to ask, what came out of this all-important and well-noised probe? Nothing!
