After a review of the recent impacts of disasters in Nigeria, stakeholders in emergency management have adopted a position for the National Assembly to amend the Act that established the National Emergency Management Agency to strengthen its roles in response to such situations

Uduaghan disclosed that it would be difficult for the state government to raise N10 billion for the reconstruction of infrastructures and resettlement of flood victims and promised to send the report to the Alhaji Aliko Dangote-led national committee on flood disaster as well as the National Emergency Management Agency for study

The Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani-Sidi, who received the delegation at the weekend in his office, noted that various groups have shown concern and great commitment towards the plight of the displaced people, just as the agency is currently working towards confronting hazards associated with harmattan and dry seasons after the rainy days

At the ceremony, which took place at the cargo terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Sani-Sidi disclosed that between June and October this year, Nigeria experienced unprecedented floods, which affected about 7.7 million people, displacing 2.1 million while 363 people lost their lives
