Some of the items in the agreement JAC signed with the FG are the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, payment of earned allowances, usurpation on non-academic career positions by vice-chancellors, inclusion of university staff school into the university community, non-payment of minimum wage arrears, and funding of state universities.

A statement co-signed by Public Relations Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede and Special Adviser to the VC on Media Matters, Wole Balogun, disclosed that NASU and other sister unions, such as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and others, used to have a cat and dog relationship with the school’s management and such was resulting in recurrent crises manifesting in protests and strike actions against the Management.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the unions are: Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) under the umbrella of the Joint Action Congress (JAC) of the institution.

In the suit Number FHC/OS/CS/44/2020 filed by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institution (NASU), the union prayed the court to compel the EFCC to investigate and prosecute the VC of the institution, Professor Labode Popoola over mismanaged funds belonging to the university among other corrupt practices as contained in its petition to the commission.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that NASU and SSANU, under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee, had embarked on a nationwide strike on February 5 to compel the Federal Government to address their demands.

The unions, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Allied Institutions (NASU), on February 5th declared an indefinite strike action, to press home their demands with the Federal Government.
