The Federal Government on Monday says it is committed in cleaning up the hydrocarbon impact on communities in Ogoniland in spite of challenges being faced in the exercise.

The Hydrocarbon Pollution and Remediation Project says rising insecurity in Ogoniland will not deter the Federal Government from remediating decades of oil-impacted communities in the area.
HYPREP’s Project Coordinator, Dr Marvin Dekil, made the call in Port Harcourt at a meeting with members of the National Association of Persons with Disability in Ogoni.
The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project on Monday opened a fresh bid to select 36 additional contractors for the remediation of oil impacted Ogoni communities in Rivers.
The Federal Government said on Friday it has handed over four additional oil spill impacted sites to contractors for the clean-up of polluted Ogoni communities.
The Federal Government says it decided to commence clean-up of Ogoniland rather than follow the UN Environment Programme’s recommendations due to recent developments.
The Federal Government has called on the people of Ogoniland to remain peaceful and avoid taking actions capable of delaying the clean-up in oil impacted communities in the area.
The Federal Government on Tuesday said it has mobilised 16 contractors to carry out environmental remediation and cleanup of oil spill in Ogoniland.
Dr Marvin Dekil, Project Coordinator of HYPREP, made this known in Port Harcourt on Tuesday at the opening of technical and commercial bid for the 21 clean-up sites in Ogoniland.
Dekil gave the commendation at a ceremony to mark handover of the expansive land to HYPREP in Lumene-Bangha, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers on Wednesday.
Dekil made the disclosure on Tuesday on the sidelines of a medical outreach held by HYPREP for indigent Ogonis in Ogale, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers.
According to him, the invitation is open to both local and foreign companies with requisite expertise and experience in the business.
