Nigerian Breweries Plc has donated a six-classroom block, library and conveniences to Mastercare International School, Asaba, Delta State through its Felix Ohiwerei Educational Trust Fund in honour of the 2017 Maltina Teacher of the Year, Felix Ariguzo, who teaches in the school.
The number is the highest ever record of entries submitted by teachers from across the country since the initiative began in 2015.
Nigerian Breweries Plc Corporate Affairs Adviser, Kufre Ekanem, explained that the extension was due to pressure from teachers across the country who wanted more time to complete the process.
The stakeholders made their position known at the flag-off of the 2018 Maltina Teacher-of-the-Year in Lagos on Friday
The Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative has so far produced 69 State Champions and three overall winners
The Corporate Affairs Adviser, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Kufre Ekanem, who disclosed this last week as the panel of judges met to commence assessment of the entries, said over 300 valid entries were received, compared to 176 received in 2016

Nigerian Breweries Plc has extended the scope of this year’s edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative to include privately-owned secondary schools in the country
Kufre Ekanem, the company’s Corporate Affairs Adviser, explained at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday that the quality of the 2015 winner gave the organizers enough impetus to believe that teachers in the nation’s public schools can match their counterparts in the private schools
Obi will also be sent abroad for professional training on the bill of Nigerian Breweries/Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, just as the Federal Government College Onitsha, Obi’s school, has also become an instant beneficiary of a block of six classrooms
The national winner will get N1 million and another N1 million to be paid into his account annually for five years.
The runner-up will take N750,000, while the school that produces the national winner will also become a beneficiary of infrastructural development and projects worth N25 million
