The Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, said this when participants of Course 38 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Plateau State on local study tour of Kwara State paid a courtesy call on him at the Government House, Ilorin
The governor argued that apart from the fact that “Kwara State is a gateway to the North and the South, the state is not new in midwifing realistic Public Private Partnership as exemplified by the Shonga farms initiative, a new hotbed of Commercial Agriculture in Nigeria”.
He said: “Currently, Kwara State is experiencing high population growth due to the huge influx of people and businesses to our state, based on our reputation as the gateway to the north and south as well as the relative peace we enjoy
The Chairman of NLC in the state, Yekini Agunbiade, and the Secretary of the NULGE in the state, Abayomi Afolabi, made the call in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital
Governor Ahmed said this at the ground breaking of the Hub, an initiative of Harmony Investment and Property Development Company Limited, a subsidiary of the state government-owed Harmony Holdings Limited
According to him, contractors handling road projects in llesha-Gwanara, Share OkeOde, Offa-lra and Erinlle-llemona roads had earlier received part payment
He said: “In our case, monthly allocations have dropped from an average of N3.4b to N1.4b monthly, leading to N1b deficit in recurrent expenditure and leaving little for infrastructure
He said: “In our quest to further make the university environment more friendly and conducive for learning, the university has just installed inverters in academic blocks, students’ hostels and the administrative block
Ahmed also denied the allegation of being discriminatory against local government workers over their salary payment.
He emphasised he was disturbed by the issue as the governor
