The publisher and chairman of The Sun Group of Newspapers and New Telegraph, Dr. Orji Kalu, has described the death of the vice-chairman of the media conglomerate, Mr. Dimgba Igwe, on Saturday, as the saddest day of his life.

While I was still relishing those inspiring lines, somebody drew my attention to what eventually killed my joy: that the Captain was among the 100 Nigerians honoured at the colorful Centenary event in Abuja on Tuesday only for her to be sacked on Friday by the same President Goodluck Jonathan, who accorded her full compliments and accolades not long ago

During a visit to the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, last year, the paramount ruler challenged Kalu to actively participate in politics in the interest of the nation. Oba Sijuwade described Kalu as a shining light in business, politics and philanthropy. The ruler also appealed to the former governor to forgive those that have offended him politically, while urging him to see disappointments and betrayal as inevitable in life

“As they mourn however, President Jonathan believes that they can take solace in the knowledge that Dr. Agagu has left behind a legacy of notable achievements in his illustrious public service career at the state and federal levels which will stand to his eternal credit and honour

In his remark, Kalu, while welcoming the envoy to Nigeria, urged the Israeli ambassador to see what Israel could do to assist Nigeria, especially in confronting its security and other challenges
He said: “With your coming, I believe Israel will support the Nigerian people in the area of our internal security since we are appear to be at a crossroad and your country is widely acknowledged as an expert in security matters
