Scandal-plagued Zuma has been under increasing pressure to leave office before his term finishes in 2019 but reportedly dug in his heels during talks with African National Congress top brass Sunday night.
The News 24 website said the party’s executive meeting on Saturday had decided that Zuma must leave office, but that no exact timeline had been agreed.
President Jacob Zuma said in December that the government would bankroll the tuition without giving details of how it would be funded.
The High Court ruled on December 13 that Zuma must set up a judicial inquiry into state influence-peddling within 30 days.
“As a result of this substantial increase in subsidy to universities, there will be no tuition fee increment for students from households earning up to 600,000 rand a year during the 2018 academic year,” Zuma said in a statement.
NAN reports the South African National Prosecuting Authority on Monday extended the deadline for President Jacob Zuma to submit arguments on why he should not be prosecuted for corruption.
The 783 charges against Zuma relate to a 30 billion rand ($2.20 billion) government arms deal arranged in the late 1990s.
“The appointment of Shaun Abrahams as the National Director of Public Prosecutions is reviewed, declared invalid and set aside,” Judge President Dunstan Mlambo said in a ruling at the Pretoria High Court.
Zuma was tried and acquitted of raping Fezekile Kuzwayo, also known as Khwezi, 11 years ago, when she was a guest in his home.

Zuma said: “We must unite and close ranks and find solutions to the challenges we face,” Zuma told veterans of the ANC’s military wing
Reports said hundreds of people gathered at various points in the city, while some were chanting outside a court where Zuma’s application to delay the release of a report over allegations of political influence by his wealthy friends was due to be heard
