Obasa, who issued a statement on behalf of members and staff of the Assembly, said The Nation, in its 10 years as a “major and vibrant source of veritable and dependable information”, has lived up to the expectation of the people as a media organization whose preoccupation is not only telling “the truth in defence of freedom”, but “standing firm in promoting transparency, rule of law and democratic governance”
The speaker, who was represented by the Chairman, House Committee on the Environment, Dayo Saka-Fafunmi, said the state government was committed to improving the environment
“I congratulate all Nigerians, especially my Muslim brothers and sisters for their perseverance, sacrifice and spiritual commitment during the fasting. It is hoped that sacrifices made will transform to making us ambassadors of peace in our individual and collective endeavours to others and Nigeria as a country,” he said
Also, the bill would reduce criminal activities such as Boko Haram insurgency, the incessant cases of kidnapping, ritual killings, gang war and domestic violence among others, as it is expected to nip in the bud crime at the grassroots
The House resolution was sequel to the motion moved by the its Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu. Sanni-Eshinlokun, which was seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Olumuyiwa Jimoh
Speaking during the parley to mark the first year of the Assembly, Obasa said the Lagos State Water Corporation not only needs chemicals to make clean water available to the people of the State, but new and modern equipment
Obasa, who spoke with senior journalists and members of Civil Society Organisations as part of activities marking the first year of the present Assembly, said one of the Bills passed into law, the Local Government Administration Amendment law, came as a private member bill
According to the Lagos Assembly Speaker, the legislature is essential to providing conducive environment for business to thrive because “without reasonable and enduring law with human face coupled with policy regulations subjected to the approval of the parliament, there cannot be an enabling and viable investment climate”
Rt. Hon. Obasa disclosed this at the Lateef Jakande auditorium inside the Assembly complex during a one-day public hearing on the Bill for the establishment of the agency organised by the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security
This followed the adoption of a report submitted by the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Administration and Community Affairs, Kazeem Alimi, during plenary
