A recent pronouncement by the Organised Labour in Nigeria that it would not bother to notify the government before embarking on a nationwide strike is quite worrisome. So also is the ultimatum extended to the state governors that they should start negotiation with their local chapters of the labour unions on the N35,000 cash award to workers by the Federal Government. The organised labour said the suspension of its October 1 nationwide strike was a temporary move, noting that it remained conditional upon the fulfillment of the promise by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

“No. Government is very clear. The fuel subsidy regime is not sustainable. The PPMC, NNPC and the PPPRA made that clear in April. What they said was that the Federal Government can no longer pay subsidies on petrol and that prices will be determined by market forces. In any case, there is no provision for subsidy payments in the 2020 budget”
