The incident, it was gathered, happened around 9 am on the Ukaegbu /Ezeiweka road in Onitsha.

Citing security sources, the agency said the attackers stole weapons and also set houses on fire.

The spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Mr. Francis Enobore, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, stating that the attack took place at about midnight on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the victims were travelling to Lagos from Ifira-Akoko in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of the state when they were kidnapped by gunmen.
The victim, Dr. Mahmud Aliyu, was kidnapped by heavily armed gunmen on Sunday at his palace at about 10pm.
The travellers were kidnapped along the Idoani-Ifira road in Akoko axis of the state on Wednesday evening.
They were kidnapped Monday night when the gunmen raided Bakori Housing Units.
The PUNCH gathered that the three victims were on their way to the farm when they were shot dead by the gunmen on Monday morning.
