Upon his assumption of office in Nigeria in 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari, recognizing this fact, decided that he would focus on the abuse of campaign financing and tackle electoral corruption. The way he has gone about it and the conduct of his own political party, the All Progressives Congress, should be a useful global study in how not to tackle the challenge of campaign finance

On 4th May 2018 Mr. Layefa Walter wrote the following: “Please don’t forgot that it was under Buhari’s watch that Nigeria dropped a bomb on refugees at an Internally Displaced People’s (IDP’s) camp in Rann, Borno State and called it a ‘regrettable operational mistake.’ That mistake killed about 250 people. Yes, 250 unarmed Internally displaced people were killed.

It is time for all southern traditional and political leaders to rise and hold a Southern and Middle Belt meeting on restructuring immediately. A communique from such a strategic meeting should aim to: boycott elections for the ethnic groups in the Middle Belt and the South; demand restructuring along the six geopolitical zonal lines

Yet, in my view, today the Ebora Owu has absolved himself of this grave and monumental error by standing up to speak truth to power at great risk to his safety, fortunes and welfare and by sending our President an explosive, damning and much-awaited missive, telling him that he has failed woefully, admonishing him to get off his “high horse of leadership” and advising him not to attempt to run again in 2019.
