The rhythm of the pestle hitting the mortar was a Sunday-Sunday affair. The cooked yam would soon give way to a succulently formidable Iyan after series of pounding at a regular frequency. Nobody cared about what part of Ekiti the other came from. We shared everything together. To us, Ekiti was one community, bonded, not bounded, just like the chopped yams that eventually transformed into one inseparable Iyan.

The party said the governor’s counsel in his press release at the weekend urging dialogue in the resolution of the Biafran crisis is an afterthought after the Nigerian Army swung into action to perform their constitutional role of preserving the unity of Nigeria and bringing all secessionists and their backers to justice.

Fayose said: “I have said it before now that it is only God that can help the Ibo people. What I see going on the South-east is ethnic cleansing when you see the video clips of that occupation, the behaviour of the soldiers, leaves much to be desired but they cannot act like that without a whistle blower,  somebody is behind them telling them go and cleanse the people. 

Speaking at the event which took place at Emure-Ekiti, the headquarters of Emure Local Government Area of the state, the vibrant Araoye said he had started the initiative code-named Makinde Araoye Social Security Scheme in his Ilawe-Ekiti country home since 2011 but decided to extend the tentacle to the six local government areas in his senatorial district now as a way of ameliorating the sufferings of the underprivileged senior citizens in his area.
