The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Thursday declared that it would not be distracted by the 2019 elections in its struggle to revitalise public varsities.
ASUU chairman at the University of Ibadan, Dr Deji Omole, stated this on Thursday at the Lying-in-State ceremony in Ibadan in honour of Late Professor of Exercise Physiology, Ademola Olasupo Abass.
The chapter’s Chairman, Dr Deji Omole, said in a statement on Sunday in Ibadan that the setting up of the committee followed a resolution of the congress.
Apparently miffed that the situation under Buhari played out in similar regimes before him, Omole stated that evidences have shown that neither the All Progressives Congress nor the Peoples Democratic Party has the solution to the problems facing ordinary Nigerians.
Granted that it is a trade union and not a professional body, which does not justify artisanal reasoning and behaviour, ASUU were nonetheless has the responsibility to be forward thinking and do the needful towards nudging university education in Nigeria onto the path of progress
