The Code of Conduct Tribunal is trying Saraki for failing to declare some of the assets he acquired while he was Governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011
Though the plea of Saraki was yet to be taken as at press time on Tuesday, he had arrived the Tribunal and sitting had commenced
The Tribunal had on Friday issued the order for Saraki’s arrest for failing to honour its invitation
The statement by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, said there is no place in law that the Bureau and the Tribunal should take instructions from any quarters
Saraki also said it amounted to seeking to achieve through the back door what some people could not get through democratic process
The Tribunal had slammed Saraki with a 13-count charge bordering largely on his alleged failure to declare assets he acquired while in office as governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011
Saraki was summoned by the CCBT for prosecution over alleged failure to declare assets he allegedly acquired as Governor of Kwara State between 2003 and 2011
Feyisola said it was mandatory for every political office holder in all parts of the country to declare their assets before getting into and leaving office
The statement is reacting to the absence of the board members at the tribunal’s Senior Management Committee meeting in spite of an invitation by the Chairman, Justice Danladi Umar
The Chairman inferred that the officers were confirmed into their new positions after their promotions, which received the endorsement of Office of the Head of Service of the Federation
