Following the intervention of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, the local union of workers in the Energy Commission of Nigeria has called off its month-long strike.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has denied reports that he has been awarding contracts on behalf of the Board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, stated this when a team of expert from the ILO visited him in his office on Monday in Abuja.

Ngige said: “You have written to the Federal Government through me that the increase in excise duty on alcohol and beverages will create job losses because once you add a new cost and pass it on, there will be consumer resistance, resulting in low patronage whereas the products coming from overseas that are being smuggled in which are cheap, will take over the market. It is a statement of fact.
