Speaking while addressing members of Civil Society Groups, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja on Tuesday, the President of the Senate reassured Nigerians that the Senate is ready to work harmoniously with the groups, adding that their engagement will fastback the developmental goals of this administration

He said: “We have to tell ourselves the home truth, we have missed the cut on the level of our effectiveness, especially so with regards to amending laws that impact on the revenues and expenditures of the state, budget reforms, infrastructure financing and deployment, accountability instruments and agency laws

The group condemned the campaign of calumny by a section of the press against the person of Saraki and called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to be firm in its decision on the emergence of a Senate president

The group, which boasted the names and signatures of the 34 senators who have endorsed Saraki on May 24, 2015 as the next Senate president, said if the group is sure of the 40 supporters it is claiming to have in the Senate should forward same to the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, as Like Minds Senators have done

The endorsement came just a few minutes after news started making the rounds that Senator Ahmed Lawan had been endorsed by the APC for the position.

The statement said: “We are soliciting the cooperation of all Senators-elect and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to ensure the emergence of the former Kwara State Governor as the President of the Senate
