Chairman of the Chapter, Dr John Edor, who led other members on the protest Wednesday in Calabar, said members of the union were owed eight months’ salary arrears, from March to October, 2022.

The position of the union was made known by the Chairman of the ASUU-UNN, Dr. Christian Opata, on Tuesday.
The union stated this while staging a solidarity protest on the Adankolo campus of the institution on Tuesday.
The union staged the protest following the “No Work No Pay” policy that led to their being paid for 11 days in October.
The lecturers, led by the Chairman, ASUU, UNIPORT Chapter Dr. Darlington Uzoma, marched from the union secretariat in Delta through the main gate of the university to the Senate building.
The protesters, under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), FUNAAB branch, held the protest in line with the directive of the national leadership of the union.
The Senator made the call while reacting to the alleged half pay for the academic staff in Maiduguri on Thursday.

This followed the decision of the government to pay prorated salaries to Academic Staff Union of Universities members.
In a statement on Sunday, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria asked Buhari to ignore the advice of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and pay ASUU members complete salaries from February to October 2022.

Osodeke spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday following complaints by ASUU members on the payment.

In a statement, by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the government noted that members of ASUU were paid their October salary pro-rata.
This emerged on Monday during a reconciliation meeting convened by Speaker Gbajabiamila between the leadership of ASUU and the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) where the Speaker emphasized that everything must be done to prevent lecturers from resuming the suspended strike action.
