Joshua and Fury, who between them own all four heavyweight titles, were set for the first of two blockbuster fights on August 14 before a US judge this week ordered that Fury must fight American challenger Deontay Wilder before September 15.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn said on Tuesday that the fight, which had been considered across three continents, would take place in Saudi Arabia on either August 7 or August 14.

Ruiz had not fought since losing to Anthony Joshua in December of 2019. The Mexican-American returned after 17 months, and dropping 55 pounds, against unheralded American opponent Arreola, 40, and registered a hard-fought win. The judges’ scorecards read 117-110, 118-109 and 118-109.

The British pair, who share all the world heavyweight titles available, have agreed a two-fight deal that will result in all belts belonging to one man for the first time since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

Talks have been continuing in recent weeks over a date and venue for the huge fight, and Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that both sides had agreed on a site offer for the bout.
