Anthony Joshua will fight Alexander Povetkin at Wembley on September 22nd with his fourth stadium fight in succession bringing his total live audience for those spectaculars close to 350,000.
The 28-year-old Joshua takes on his WBA mandatory challenger, Povetkin as he returns to Wembley for the first time since his victory over Wladimir Klitschko in front of 90,000 fans in 2017.
Joshua will defend his WBA, IBF and WBO belts there on September 22 and return to Wembley on April 13.
Joshua, 28, holds the WBA, IBF and WBO titles, with Povetkin in a mandatory challenger position for the WBA belt.
His options are for him to have a unification showdown with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, a fight in America against Jarrell Miller, or a mandatory defence against Povetkin.
The WBA has ordered the Briton to begin negotiations with Russia’s mandatory challenger Povetkin, 38.
As WBN mentioned on Wednesday, Povetkin being left out of the thinking for Joshua’s next bout could have repercussions with the WBO and WBA.
Ryabinsky announced on Wednesday that the World Boxing Council (WBC) dropped the indefinite suspension against Povetkin and the Russian boxer was again eligible for WBC-sponsored bouts starting December 6.However, Povetkin still had to pay the WBC a fine of $250,000.
