Elections are a prominent feature of democracy, serving as an essential tool to ascertain the will of the people regarding their preferred leadership for the nation. The individual who emerges as the winner represents the majority and this process holds great significance due to its impact on the lives of all citizens and the nation’s reputation. However, this system is not flawless as it solely caters to the decision of the majority, leaving no alternative or role in governance for the minority candidate who contested and lost. Each candidate aspires to win and become the people’s choice, but it is legally established that only one candidate can emerge as the winner of the election.

In a front-page story: “Confession Of An Alleged Assassin: How I Killed People For Money – Ade Lawyer,” published by Daily Independent newspaper, on March 17, 2018, the assassin said: “After my release, I went back to Ajah and I started working again as a bus conductor and a driver. But the residents in areas close to Bus Rapid Transit, BRT, routes have cause to cheer the Governor given the satisfaction passengers patronizing the scheme derive in getting to their respective destinations. Going by this logic, if former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode’s four-year strides as the governor of the state are a measure of humanist philosophy, then he has laid his treasures in heaven and has achieved immortality in the hearts of the people of Lagos State.
