It is the popular belief that the civil service has long lost its lustre and all its practitioners have become carrots of patronage. And yet even if many civil servants on our shores have earned well-deserved reputations for dishonour, painting the entire civil service with such sordid colours, is an unfair generalisation. There are men and women of principle and competence who served in the civil service without blemish – one of such exemplars being the quintessential administrator, Ahmed Joda who passed away on August 13, 2021.
The condolence message was contained in a statement on Friday by the Media Office of the Senate President.
In a condolence letter on Friday, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC. Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, on behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of the Nigerian Communications Commission describes the demise of late Joda, who died on Friday 13th of August, 2021 at the age of 91, as an irreparable loss to the entire nation.
Abubakar, in a statement personally signed by him in Abuja on Friday, described Joda as great Nigerian and first generation of Adamawa State indigenes who made immense contribution to growth of the state and the country.
Acknowledging his age-long friendship with the deceased, the nonagenarian monarch described the late Joda as a dependable and selfless friend, adding that the late statesman was a man of honour and integrity.
Stressing that the deceased died at a time the country needed his counsel on national issues, Kalu noted that the deceased served Nigeria meritoriously in different positions.
In a personal tribute to the deceased on Friday, Atiku said “Indeed, an iroko tree has fallen in Nigeria, particularly northern Nigeria.”
Joda, the former chancellor of the Bells University Otta and friend of the former president for about 60 years died on Friday, aged 91.
Organised by the Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre and instituted 25 years ago in honour of the first President of Nigeria, late Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe, the award was intended primarily to encourage and nurture leadership on the African Continent and in the Diaspora.
