Lawan made the remarks while addressing reporters after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss important national issues at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, said this when he spoke at a special session on the second anniversary of the 9th Senate at plenary on Wednesday.
The Senate President explained that an unpredictable budget sequence was unacceptable for a nation in dire need of development, a situation which made it imperative for the ninth Assembly to correct the anomaly in accordance with the constitution.
According to him, the issue of gender diversity hasn’t been sufficiently addressed through policies of government and legislation to ensure equal opportunities for women.
Lawan gave the commendation against the backdrop of a point of order raised by Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe (PDP, Adamawa South), to draw the attention of the upper chamber to the development.
Lawan also congratulated other members of the Executive of the Guild of Editors who were newly elected or re-elected on Tuesday by their fellow editors.
“We are in support of creating an ECOWAS Parliament that has members that will be directly elected into the parliament so that the ordinary people will have a complete attachment with those that represent them in ECOWAS Parliament,” Lawan said.
Lawan made the call on Wednesday at a Special Summit on National Security organised by the House of Representatives
Lawan who made this known at the security summit organised by the House of Representatives said that incidents of kidnappings, banditry, and insurgency were threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria.
