The 2018 edition of the All Africa Music Awards will be broadcast live on DStv and GOtv from Wednesday, 21 November to Saturday, 24 November.
The unveiling followed receipt of the Letter of Intent to Host AFRIMA, dated April 18, 2018, addressed to the Commissioner of Social Affairs, AUC, Amira Elfadil.
Organised by the African Union Commission in partnership with the International Committee of AFRIMA, the organisers announced its call for entries for the 2018 edition of the awards on May 25.
Part of the agenda for the Calendar Unveiling of the fifth annual edition of AFRIMA is a Courtesy Visit to the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is set to receive African delegates and music stars attending the event from around Africa.

The 13-person International Jury of AFRIMA, which represents the five regions of Africa, the Diaspora and the African Union Commission, are: Kawesa Richard (Eastern Africa-Uganda), Delani Makhalima (Southern Africa-Zimbabwe), Christian Syren (Southern Africa-Southern Africa), Rita Ray (Diaspora-UK), Kiki Toure(Central Africa – Equatorial Guinea), Rab Bakari (Diaspora –USA), Oscar Kidjo (Western Africa-Benin Republic), Laolu Akintobi (Western Africa-Nigeria), Tabu Osusa (Eastern Africa-Kenya), Robert E. Ekukole (Central Africa-Cameroon), Angela Martins (African Union Rep.)
Governor Ambode, who spoke at the Lagos House, Ikeja when he received the AFRIMA delegation led by the Head of Culture of African Union Commission, Angela Martins, and AFRIMA President, Mike Dada, expressed excitement at the development and accepted the hosting right
The announcement of the host state, which was held in Ikeja, Lagos State, featured heavyweights both in the musical and media industry
Other key factors considered are security, infrastructure and availability of appropriate venues among others.
Dr. Mustapha Kaloko, the African Union Commissioner for Social Affairs, was quoted in the statement as saying that the main purpose of host city partnership was to shore up Africa’s image of a great continent sprawling with unequalled tourist attractions
The four cities targeted as potential hosts for the continental awards ceremony are: Calabar (Cross River State), Lagos (Lagos State), Port Harcourt (Rivers State) and Uyo (Akwa Ibom State)
In the same vein, the AU’s single, common electronic passport throughout the continent falls squarely within the framework of Africa’s Agenda 2063 and has the specific aim of facilitating free movement of persons, goods and services around the continent in order to foster intra-Africa trade, integration and socio-economic development
She said: “We will continue to promote regional and continental integration of Africa using the potential of this creative industry, which is music, by linking the activities of the artistes to the Charter for African Cultural Renaissance, the African Youth Charter and the AU Plan of Action on Cultural and creative industries
