The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has described this initiative as both symbolic and significant, calling it a “steady step toward the objective of creating a strong, prosperous and integrated Africa, driven by its own citizens and capable of taking its rightful place on the world stage”

Opening the 15th Extraordinary session the Council in Addis Ababa, its Chairman and Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Tedros Adhanom, said the body was concerned about ICC’s failure to follow “certain laid down procedures in the application of justice on some African countries and Africans”

The statement said the short-term observers would be supported by team of nine coordinating and technical team from the commission’s Democracy and Electoral Assistance Unit, the Pan-African Parliament and the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa
