In a statement signed by Oshiomhole’s Chief Press Secretary, Peter Okhiria, Edo State will become the first state government in Nigeria and the first sub-national government in Africa to launch an Open Data Portal, joining over 200 governments worldwide that are currently pursuing Open Data

“What we have been trying to do here is to try to find the courage to clean up the mess we inherited in Edo State and to see that we leave behind not just roads, schools and street lights and a school system that works but also institutionalised paperless government so that the level of manipulation can be minimised if not completely eradicated

The governor, who used the opportunity to dispel the insinuations by the opposition parties in the state that the fire could have been an attempt to conceal records of alleged missing State Universal Basic Education Board money, said it had nothing to do with the removal of the former Commissioner for Education or the sacking of the board

Briefing correspondents after the NEC meeting presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo, Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo State said the Council agreed that the states would buy the machines, but requested that INEC should give them a “discount of 25 per cent for the old machines and 10 per cent for the new ones
