The three main Nigerian leader were participants and high stakeholders in the 1959 general elections.  There were Alhaji Ahmadu Bello, the teacher and local government administrator, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, journalist and publisher of the famous West African Pilot and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the lawyer, trade unionist and journalist.

He congratulated Nigerians across the world and noted that though the country could not have been said to have fulfilled all the dreams of her founding fathers to build a united, prosperous and secure country that would occupy a leading position in the comity of nations, it is unnecessary to start dwelling on the past but to immediately plan for the future, which he said belongs to the youths.

According to available information, the selected logo was one of the 15 options developed pro bono for the Federal Government by a consortium of marketing communications and productions companies, comprising Chain Reactions Nigeria, a leading Public Relations and Integrated Communications Consulting firm; The Temple Management Company, a talent and event management agency; and TBWA Africa, one of Africa’s leading advertising agencies.
