Suspected kidnappers of ex-University of Ibadan VC arrested

Two suspects have been arrested over the kidnapping of a former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan Prof. Adigun Agbaje and some others.

Agbaje and others were kidnapped around 6 pm near Guru Maharajji area of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on October 29. He was returning from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye when the bandits shot his car and abducted him along with others that were waylaid.

They were released after paying ransom to the kidnappers. Since then, the Oyo State Police Command has been on the trail of the kidnappers.

The Commissioner of Police Adebowale Williams said on a radio programme in Ibadan, the state capital that two suspects had been arrested over the incident.

He added that the dresses which they wore into the bush where they operated and some cash were recovered from the suspects.

To strengthen security, surveillance and information flow within communities, Williams also disclosed that the Oyo Peace Committee was being set up, adding that it would be inaugurated tomorrow (Friday).

The committee, he said, comprises notable individuals and traditional rulers.

“The committee will bring all politicians together to sign a peace accord on December 2.” He said.
