According to available information, Dr Onuigbo was abducted by the gunmen in front of his house in Nnewi while coming back from work.
Reports gathered from sources noted that the medical doctor was accosted at the gate of his house in Nnewi, by his abductors who were said to have trailed him up to the gate of his house.

“As they double-crossed him, they had few conversations with him after which they ordered him to enter into their vehicle before they drove off the scene.
“It is not yet clear the motive of his abduction, but from the way the abductors behaved while they had the short conversation with him, it was reasonable to conclude that they were kidnappers because he is not a politician and one will be wondering what could be the motive of abducting the doctor if not for ransom.”
The Head of Corporate Affairs of NAUTH confirmed the abduction, adding that, “The institution is aware of the incident and we are doing the needful. That is all I can say for now”.
The spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, also confirmed the incident.
“Yes, the command is aware of the kidnap. We have already mobilised for the rescue of the doctor.
“The Commissioner, CP Obono Itam has given orders for his release unhurt and men of the Command are currently at work. He will be released unhurt.”
