Few days after the Supreme Court ruled in his favour, the Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has asked the people of Niger State to forgive him in areas he erred after his first four years in office.
Bello also reassured the people of fairness and equity, saying: “There will be provision for more dividends of democracy after this victory at the Supreme Court judgment.
“The court has vindicated me.”
Bello made the plea when Chairmen from the 25 local government councils and some critical stakeholders paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House over his victory at the Supreme Court.
He said: “I ask for forgiveness from those I offended in the last four years of governance.
“And I also forgive all that offended me in one way or the other.”
While appreciating the organisers of the event, Bello disclosed that more political appointments are underway for politicians, calling for peaceful coexistence of the citizens to enhance development.
He however called on his opponent, Alhaji Umar Mohammad Ndako of the Peoples Democratic Party, to join hands with his administration for the overall development of the state, urging him to be patient, calm and prayed for the future.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, applauded Governor Bello for approving local government autonomy even before the Federal Government’s passage of the bill, which he said is an indication of his transparency, accountability, fairness and justice to all.
