Super 4: Akpoborie lauds NPL talents

The current Super Sports pundit maintained that the Nigeria Premier League players have the capacity of performing even better if they are well taken care of like their counterparts in other leagues in Africa.

Former Super Eagles and Vfl Wolfsburg forward, Jonathan Akpoborie, has expressed delight in the abundant of talents he has seen at the ongoing Glo Premier League at the Abuja National Stadium.
In a special chat with reporters in Abuja, Akpoborie noted that with what he has seen so far in the Super 4 tournament, he is very convinced that if all the impediments in the Nigeria league are taken care of, the nation’s league will be ranked among the very best in Africa.
The former VfB Stuttgart and F.C. Hansa Rostock striker, said: “I would say I am impressed with what I have seen so far in this Glo Premier League pre-season tournament maybe because this is the first time I am directly looking at the games live.
“But at the end of the day a lot of people used to argue and say there are no more football talents in Nigeria.
“That I think is very, very wrong because this competition has proved that there are abundant talents in the country.
“Before I came to Abuja for this tournament, I saw a lot of games at the Mock Nations Cup in Ajegunle, Lagos and I saw talents in abundance.
“The problem we do have in Nigeria involves organisation, officiating and crowd control.
“If we can actually control that crowd violence, then leaving the referees to decide games the way they are supposed to be decided, if we can get the organisational aspect right, then we are going to have a wonderful league.”
The current Super Sports pundit maintained that the Nigeria Premier League players have the capacity of performing even better if they are well taken care of like their counterparts in other leagues in Africa.
Akpoborie added: “The players are willing to perform and if they are paid very well, we will actually have the strongest league in Africa and will also be among the world’s best.
“We just need to instil that organisation.”
