The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has admonished Muslim and Christian Clerics in the country to always tell leaders the truth.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Abubakar spoke on Sunday in Tsamiya village in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State when he inaugurated an Islamiya School constructed by an indigene of the village who wants to be anonymous.
Abubakar said: “Religious leaders should tell us the truth.
“We should be told when we do the right thing and we should be told when we go astray.
“This is better for us as such efforts should guide us, rather than praise singing to us and sycophancy.”
Abubakar also appealed to parents across the country to endeavour to enrol their children in schools at all levels.
He said: “Education is the best legacy we can bequeath to our children and wards.
“It is also only with education that any society can develop and without it, there will be no any meaningful development.”
The monarch also commended the state government for according top priority to the education sector.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Bashir Garba, said his administration would continue to accord priority attention to the education sector.
The Chairman of the State Zakkat and Endowment Committee, Alhaji Lawal Maidoki, stressed the need for wealthy individuals to assist the less-privileged ones in the society.
Maidoki lauded the state government for solely sustaining the activities of the committee.
An indigene of the village, Justice Ladan Tsamiya of the Supreme Court, promised to maintain the school, as well as enrol their children in it.
The Commissioner for Religious Affairs in Sokoto, Alhaji Mani Katami, said the state government would complete all uncompleted mosques and construct new ones across the state.
NAN reports that the Sultan also inaugurated the distribution of 100 bags of assorted grains and N100,000 collected as Zakkat in the area.
Similarly, a freezer, generator, as well as five grinding and five sewing machines provided by the Zakkat and Endowment Committee as an endowment were doled out to 11 needy persons.
