President Goodluck Jonathan reserves the right to hire and fire anyone in the bid to run the country successfully.
This was the position of the Federal Government on Tuesday’s sack of the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba.
Jonathan had on Tuesday approved the sack of Abba and the immediate appointment of Solomon Arase in acting capacity.
The Minister of Information, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, disclosed the position of the Federal Government on the sack of Abba on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council meeting.
Akwashiki said she had no explanation to offer over Abba’s sack because the President had the right to appoint and fire his appointees.
She said: “I think it is within the President’s power to appoint and sack and he did what he had to do.”
