Two suicide bombers on Thursday struck within two hours of one another in Maiduguri and Yola, the capitals of Borno and Adamawa States respectively.
While a female suicide bomber detonated her bomb in Maiduguri at about 6pm, the one in Yola at the Jimeta Main Market struck around 7:45pm.
The explosion in Maiduguri, close to a military checkpoint, was confirmed by the state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Opadokun.
The female suicide bomber had the explosive strapped to her body.
The affected checkpoint was said to be on Baga Road, close to the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery.
At least one person, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, was confirmed dead.
In Yola, the casualty figure was put at not less than 15, with over 30 injured.
The suicide bomber struck at a time the evening prayers had just been said, with human traffic said to be heavy.
