Three persons, who allegedly forged a signature and attempted to steal an Ecobank customer’s N2m, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The defendants are a female student, Precious Ogah, 18; a male student, Hassan Adamu, 19, and a businesswoman, Theresa Christopher, 34.
They were charged with conspiracy, forgery and attempted stealing.
The defendants, who were arraigned before Magistrate S.K. Matepo, however, denied committing the offences.
The magistrate admitted them to bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Matepo said that all the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to Lagos State Government.
The prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Dec. 8, at an Ecobank branch in Ipaja, Lagos.
He said that the defendants conspired to forge the signature of Alao Kazewem with the intent to steal two million naira from him.
“The defendants approached the bank and presented some forged documents in order to steal from Kazewem’s account.
“They were caught in the process and handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.
Ogu said that the alleged offences violated Sections 365, 406 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Jan. 11 for mention.
