The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has appealed to the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to embrace dialogue in order to end the ongoing strike by lecturers.
Ambali made the appeal on Tuesday in Ilorin at the Founders’ Day and 29th Convocation Ceremony of the university.
“We should always put the interest of the students first and do all things necessary to ensure that they are not left idle even for a minute,” the vice chancellor said.
He warned that students not in school may become vulnerable to anti-social acts.
“It is my hope that it shall be victory at last for all the parties involved in the current challenges facing many Nigerian universities, just as it is victory at last for the graduands before you today,” he said.
He said that out of the 6,851 students that graduated in the current academic year, 5,882 bagged first degrees.
According to him, 14 out of the first degree graduates have first class.
He said that the university would continue to monitor the progress of the graduands with the data available to it.
