The Ministry of Sports has listed Wheelchair Tennis as medal winning event of the National Sports Festival.
The President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Engineer, Sani Ndanusa, broke this news on Monday.
Ndanusa said: “The good news from the Director of Sports’ Annual General Meeting that ended at the weekend is that the Wheelchair Tennis is now a medal winning event at the National Sports Festival.
“We are elated by the Sports Ministry’s gesture as it is hoped that it would go along way in encouraging the athletes to strive hard for the tops.”
Cross River was awarded the hosting right for the festival in 2014 and 2015, but this was postponed for lack readiness of the facilities.
It can be recalled that Wheelchair Tennis was introduced in 2002 in Nigeria and has since excluded from the sports festival.
