The TakeitBack Movement, led by the presidential aspirant and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has joined Nigerian workers in demanding for increase in wages.
This was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the group as Nigeria joined the rest of the world in marking the Workers’ Day.
The statement reads: “We join all Nigerian workers and the vast numbers of unemployed, in demanding for improved wages and living conditions.
“For far too long, the Nigerian working class has been abandoned. While the Nigerian political class continues to award themselves tens of millions of naira in allowances and salaries, the Nigerian worker has been told to make do with a minimum wage of about N18,000.
“Our movement has made an unwavering commitment to raise the minimum wage for the federal civil service to N100k per month when we are in office. We will do the same in every state that we lead as well.
“Nigerian workers should stay hopeful because a new dawn is coming. We ask them to stand with us in solidarity as we Take Back our destiny, from the status quo politicians who think of Nigeria as their private ATMs.
“We thank Nigeria’s workers for their commitment and perseverance.”
