The Action Congress of Nigeria in Oyo State has lampooned the ousted National Vice Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in the South West, Engineer Segun Oni, over his tirades against the party in the region.
Oni was reported to have said during his visit to Akure, the Ondo State capital, recently that the PDP would capitalise on the alleged non-performance of ACN and Labour Party to regain the South West in the next election.
But ACN, in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan by its state Publicity Secretary, Hon. Dauda Kolawole, described the eight-year rule of PDP in the South West as years of the locust, which would never be allowed to happen in the zone again.
Saying that Oni was merely hallucinating on the take-over of the zone in the next general election, the party said that first, he had no locus-standi to speak for the PDP in the South-West again, having been sacked by a competent court of law as the National Vice Chairman.
The ACN added: “What moral justification does Oni have to speak for PDP again? This is a man whose position has been declared vacant by a court through the nullification of the South-West congress that produced him.
“Unfortunately for Oni, this latest blow was coming at a time he is yet to accept the reality of being ousted as the Governor of Ekiti State, laying claim to the so-called mandate which he stole in the first instance.”
It said that it was only Oni and his party, which is populated by people of mean repute, that would fail to acknowledge the rapid transformation that is currently taking place in the South West after clearing the mess unleashed on the zone by the PDP misrule of the past.
The statement said: “The Onis of PDP will be shocked to their marrows in 2015 when the people of the zone, who are just heaving a sigh of relief from the brigandage, violence and high-level corruption visited on them, decide to send the party into permanent oblivion.
“While Adebayo Alao-Akala, who ruled Oyo State for five years, is currently facing a N50 billion fraud case in the court, Gbenga Daniel is fighting tooth and nail to escape the EFCC hammer over corrupt practices while in office as the Governor of Ogun State. Sad enough, both of them are from the PDP.
“Certainly, the people of the South-West, who had been taken for fools for long, are now wiser and will never allow politicians who have nothing to offer to cajole them again. This is the reality Oni must face and stop his grandstanding that will further lead the party into the abyss.”
The ACN accused Oni of also being a supplanter, maintaining that the same way he held forte illegally for 24 months in Ekiti and was sacked by the court, was the same way the court had thrown him out as the PDP Zonal deputy chairman.
“Oni should go and find out what the problem is with his ori. He is a natural supplanter and the law always takes its due course over him. He should be ashamed to open his mouth to talk in a comity of decent Nigerians. Till today, he has not had the moral right to refund the illegally acquired money he collected as the supplanter of the governorship position in Ekiti for two years,” the ACN said.
