The state chapters of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria in the South-East zone have urged governors in the zone to give sports development the needed priority.
The body, in a communiqué issued after its zonal meeting in Enugu on Friday, said such attention would help in facilitating youth empowerment in the zone.
It also noted that the demolition of Imo SWAN secretariat located inside the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri by the Imo State Government was regrettable.
The body then appealed for an alternative office to be made available to Imo SWAN.
It also urged SWAN members in the zone to ensure the revalidation of their membership.
South-East SWAN appealed to its various state chapters to embark on a serious membership drive to improve their numerical strength.
It also commended state governors in the South-East for their interest in sports development.
It stated: “We salute particularly the governor of Anambra for establishing a Sports Commission.
“The association also lauds Abia, Imo and Enugu State Governments for continuing to support their various clubs in the various leagues in the country.
“SWAN in the South-East also thank the Enugu State Government, philanthropist Femi Otedola, the Rangers Management and all those who have supported financially and morally the ailing former Green Eagles captain and ex-Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu.”
The communiqué was signed by Igwe Onuoha, Chigozie Chukwuleta and Tunde Liadi on behalf of the meeting’s Communiqué Drafting Committee.
