Heavy gunfire has been reported in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Sunday evening.
According to reports monitored online, the shooting is between troops of the Nigerian Army and members of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram.
The Boko Haram members were said to have invaded the town, which is the spiritual headquarters of the terrorists group, around 6pm on Sunday.
Premium TImes is reporting that the main battle ground is Aladuwari village, which is about 2km from Maiduguri.
Also at about 8pm, two suicide bombers, believed to be females, were said to have detonated explosives near FOMWAN School in Jiddari area of Maiduguri.
