The Sokoto State Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday described the suspension of Governor Aliyu Wamakko by its National Executive Committee as unconstitutional and breach of party’s constitution.
The National Working Committee of the party had, on June 5, suspended Wamakko for alleged anti-party activities.
The state committee made its position known at a press conference after rising from an emergency meeting in Sokoto.
Alhaji Arzika Tureta, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, who addressed newsmen on behalf of the committee, said the party felt betrayed by the decision of the national secretariat.
Tureta said that the national secretariat acted without recourse to procedures, justice and equity as enshrined in article 21 of the PDP constitution.
Tureta, who was a former state chairman of the PDP, described Wamakko as a loyal and committed member of the party, both in the state and at the national level.
He advised the national secretariat to guard against rumour and unsubstantiated allegations from politicians who were out to destroy the party at all levels.
He appealed to members of the party in the state to be patient, law-abiding and respectful to the party.
