The Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Muktar Shagari, has expressed optimism that he would get the Peoples Democratic Party ticket to contest the state’s governorship position in 2015.
Shagari spoke with newsmen at the PDP National Headquarters after picking the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms on Thursday in Abuja.
He said “as a loyal member of the party since its inception”, its leadership had promised him the ticket.
Shagari, who was a former Minister of Water Resources, said his picking the forms to contest the election was just a mere formality.
This, he said, was so because he had been promised by the party’s leadership that he would be the next governor of Sokoto State.
“There is no harm if others come to buy the party’s form to contest the election, but all I am saying is that I have been a loyal member of the party and loyalty deserves to be rewarded,” he said.
According to Shagari, the people of the state were waiting for the PDP leadership to field him as the party’s candidate for the 2015 governorship election.
He, however, said that because of his popularity, the people of the state contributed money to pay for the forms for him.
This, according to him, is because they believe he has the capacity to lead the state to greater height.
Shagari further expressed optimism that he would emerge as the state governor in 2015, adding that his belief in God had always seen him through every situation.
Rep. Ibrahim Gusau also submitted his nomination and expression of interest forms to contest the Zamfara State governorship election in 2015.
According to Gusau, the forms were purchased for him by the state chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students.
Gusau said he was contesting the election to salvage the state’s education, ensure security and industrialise it if he was elected.
He said: “Given the chance, I will deliver Zamfara from the present doldrums it finds itself.
“Give me the ticket and see what happens in the state.
“God willing, if I pick the ticket, I will turn around the state for good.”
Gusau said that his popularity in the state would ensure its delivery to the PDP in 2015.
He, however, said that as a party loyalist, if he failed to get its ticket at the primaries slated for November, he would support whoever would emerges.
Gusua promised to work with whoever emerged to as the party’s candidate for the election to ensure that the PDP reclaimed Zamfara State in 2015.
NANS President, Tijani Usman, who was on Gusua’s entourage, said the students supported the aspirant because of his support to education in the state, especially in the area of ICT.
Chief Ogenevo Omene, a governorship aspirant from Delta State, was also at the PDP headquarters to pick its forms to contest the state 2015 governorship election.
Omene promised to use his experience to develop the state, attract foreign investors and provide employment for the people.
Catharine Ilolo also picked the form on Thursday on behalf of Dr. Ngozi Olejeme, the Chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund.
Ilolo said Olejeme was contesting the 2015 Delta State governorship election, adding that she had the capacity to rule the state and positively affect the lives of the people.
She expressed optimism that if elected, Olejeme would bridge the gap between the rich and the poor in the state.
