A former Features Editor of the Nigerian Tribune, Dr. Festus Adedayo, has said he is not bent on taking up the appointment as the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan.
Adedayo spoke with PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday amid the uproar that greeted his appointment by Lawan.
Indeed, sources said Lawan was summoned by the Presidency on Wednesday over the development.
The Senate president met with the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), at the Presidential Villa.
Adedayo told PREMIUM TIMES that he never begged for the appointment and was still consulting with his family members on whether to accept the appointment.
He said: “I have never been a politician.
“But if the politicians feel that it is their birthright, they can have the appointment.
“It is not a do or die thing for me at all.
“If I go there, I’m going there to serve the country.
“As I talk to you, I’m a student of the Law School and it is a certificate that I’ve sought to own all my life.
“So, for me to abandon it, is an issue that I’m still battling.
“I have never done anything in my life other than in the media.
“I have been a Reporter, Features Editor, Opinion Editor.
“The only ‘affilliary’ thing I’ve done is be a Media Adviser to two governors and in those respect, I did my job as a journalist and a professional.”
