The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, says Nigeria Shooting Sports Federation will continue to get the Federal Government’s support, especially for grassroots development.
Dalung gave the assurance at the closing of the maiden Media Shooting Competition and Workshop on Thursday.
According to the minister, the ministry is impressed with achievements of the current federation’s board led by Lonsdale Adeoye, on grassroots development of the sport.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that NSSF facilitated the training and international certification of 33 shooting sport coaches in Grade D category.
NAN also reports that the International Shooting Sport Federation trained and certified the coaches.
Dalung said: “The ministry has been supporting the shooting sport federation in its programmes within available resources.
“Shooting sport will be part of events in the next edition of the National Sports Festival.
“The new board of NSSF has been coming up with various programmes to further develop the game in the country.
“They should come with their proposals and we will definitely welcome and support them within available resources.’’
Similarly, Adeoye expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and appealed for more support.
Adeoye said: “We thank the Federal Government for its support. We want to assure the ministry of impressive results at every opportunity to represent the country.
“We will also ensure that shooting sport is further developed at the grassroots.’’
NAN reports that representatives of Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs and other board members of NSSF were at the closing of the media workshop.
Forty-six journalists from various media outfits in the country participated in the competition.
