Seven persons have been confirmed killed in an early morning accident on Sunday in Kula village in Bauchi State.
The accident was said to have occurred at about 10:30am at Kula village along Bauchi-Kano Road.
It involved a Honda Civic car, red in colour, with registration number AM 41 TRN, driven by nusa Sale of Nasaru village in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State and conveying six passengers, and a grey coloured Sharoon Bus with registration number BAU 844 AE, driven by Babawo Dan’azumi of Bauchi town, with five passengers.
According to a report made available by the Bauchi State Police Command, the accident occurred when the Honda Civic driver, coming from Kano direction on high speed, on reaching a bend at Kula village lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle and had a head on collision with the Sharon Bus coming from Bauchi direction.
As a result, 12 persons from both vehicles sustained various degrees of injuries.
A Police Patrol Team attached to Ganjuwa Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer visited the scene and rushed victims to the General Hospital Kafin Madaki for medical attention, where seven of those involved, including the driver of the Honda Civic car, were certified dead by a medical doctor.
Those who died were Inusa Sale, male and 35 years; Yakubu Suleiman, male, 30; Isyaku Alka, male, 40; Inusa Sauwanu, male, 30; Shaibu Wada Maigoro, male, 35; Ali Haladu, male, 25; and Mairo Adamu, female, 30.
Meanwhile, five of the injured are still on admission and said to be responding to treatment.
All corpses have been released to their relatives for burial after postmortem examination.
A statement by the Command’s spokesman, SP Haruna Mohammed, said the Command urged members of the public, particularly drivers of commercial vehicles, to always drive with care and caution in order to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and property.
